The Wedding Institute

SO – yesterday was my first, ever wedding fair. I’d done a little post about why I jumped at the chance to do the Wedding Institute before – and I’m delighted to say that it lived up to my expectations and more..

Dav and I drove our cars  full of furniture from our home (for reasons that D couldn’t initially understand) to make up my little corner in Saltburn Art School. My area was totally messy, full of miscellaneous bits and bobs from our house and probably a bit too busy – but that’s how I like things – organised chaos. Everyone at the fair was so lovely and so like-minded. Everyone’s work was incredibly beautiful and so much care had been taken with presentation and ‘the look’ of the place. Once everyone was set up, it was probably the prettiest place I’ve ever been – packed to the rafters with flowers, silverware, vintage textiles, handmade creations and delicate table-wares.

Here are my photos from yesterday when I snatched some time away from my stall – see the pretty for yourself…

Welcome Break..

Today I got back from a little trip away with some wonderful people.. Around a year ago I attended Emma Case’s Welcome Home workshop (all kinds of wonderful), and the number of ‘Welcome Homies’ has since grown as more workshops have happened over the past few months.

It was decided that it was time for us to all meet up and have a few days together; some friendly faces, some new faces, go ‘glamping’, and take a well-earned ‘Welcome Break’.. We chatted, played rounders, ate too much cake, busted moves, lit fires, pulled ourselves pints, fed the lambs, attempted ‘windy cricket’, took photographs, compared ‘signature dance moves’, tried night-time photography, played buckaroo, sang ‘Happy Birthday’, did the conga, chilled out on the couches around the heater, chatted business, drank more, dirty chat around the bar, debated between blankets, whisky or tea to warm up, stayed up late and caught a few hours sleep.. I’ve been left feeling so happy and completely worn out.

Here are a few pictures of a very Welcome Break..

The Lakes

I’m really not a fan of landscape photography (she says.. hitting publish on a post full of landscape photographs..) which is why I wanted to push myself to try and enjoy them. I’ve always found them uninteresting or trying to emulate a specific style (there are a lot of Joe Cornish wannabes in my area..),  I’ve also seen too many which have been over-edited and dramatised and just… not to my taste at all.

I wanted to try doing them as part of a promise this year to push myself out of my comfort zone. It was strange, I’d  call myself more of a ‘people photographer’, and I kept wanting someone to step into the frame and instead I was working with the landscape and nothing else.

Here are the results.. I’d try it again in the future but don’t think it’s completely for me.. then again I do love twilight and a good sunset.
