Vivienne | Portrait Project, Personal Work

I’ve wanted to embark upon some sort of personal project for a while.. I attempted a 365 Project at the beginning of the year, but during busy periods I found myself forgetting and not really giving it enough time or thought to make it worthwhile.. I’ve also wanted to get into portrait photography more and experimented a little with one-on-one photography last year when I shot my lovely friend Elizabeth. I love Q&As.. and love the Guardian Magazine Q&A each Saturday.. so thought I’d put a little portrait and question project together which I can shoot and blog as regularly or sporadically as I wish/have time for.

I decided to begin with my nearest and dearest.. and even wondered if I’d learn a few things about those I love most along the way. My favourite number is seven (I’m a bit of a number geek..) so there are going to be seven questions and seven frames per ‘portrait’. And who better to kick off the project than my own little girl, Vivienne.

Vivienne, 4

What would be your perfect day?

Evelyn would come round to my house, we would go to the park with my bike and my scooter and my roller-skates then go swimming. Then we’d come home and paint something and then go to the cinema and then make a robot. We’d have fish finger sandwiches for tea.

What is your earliest memory?

Baby food all over my face.

What is your greatest fear?

Spooky cats and spooky dogs.

What is your most treasured possession?

My books, the big books with lots of stories in the same book. They are really special.

What is your pet peeve?

People who drop rubbish.

What, if anything, worries you about the future?

Nothing.

What single thing would improve your life?

Going to the cinema.

Easter & Spring 2014 | Personal Work

There is a point every year when suddenly the months start to pass by more and more quickly.. and I realise I need to make even more of an effort to stay on top of everything and take a breath here and there.. This year it seems to be happening now. January and February seem to drag in some ways.. and suddenly it’s downhill to Summer. This April I’ve been lucky enough to shoot three gorgeous weddings and, with the Easter holidays and some sunny days, I’ve managed to get some time with my girl and take some personal photographs too. This is what April looked like for me…

Steph and Matt had a beautiful wedding at the fantastical Newton Hall in Northumberland..

Lindsey and Chris (and their twin-bump!) married at Redworth Hall in Darlington..10257017_661093240610922_8959491990211540226_oI was asked to help Emily Hannah Photography and popped over to the Lake District to shoot Emily and James’ wedding on her behalf.. (Full preview coming later today!)10285394_664953216891591_76955697526288707_oI‘ve been getting a helluva lot of use out of my Fujifilm Neo Instax.. I find these little mini-pics perfect to blu-tack all over my fridge.. The black and whites were taken on my Olympus Trip.OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-042OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-102OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-110OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-112 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-036 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-022OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-039OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-038

I made a little Easter stop-motion video from the Easter weekend.. which mainly revolved around food and family (as every holiday seems to!)

I went on a photographers’ trip away called Welcome Break.. a bi-product of the wonderful Emma Case Welcome Home workshop. I actually forgot to take many photos (oops..) but I guess sometimes it’s better to just down tools and have a few days peace and quiet away from it all (and sleeping in instead of rising with a girl who gets up before 6am..!)Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-006 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-022 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-026And it wouldn’t be a catch up post without a little Instagram update.. Lot of Easter, seeing friends, having my sister up to stay this weekend, a Liverpool hen do for my Bessie Louise who GETS MARRIED NEXT MONTH, and general odds and sods from pottering through life.

Welcome Break | Personal Work

I took another little trip/break before the madness of wedding season with a lovely bunch of photographers.. We had such a laugh.. lots of dancing, (too much) drinking, good food, good company, walks through fields to watch the sunrise, rounders and lots of just switching off before the madness of wedding season kicked in. I took a ridiculously small handful of pictures, but here are a few. A mix of digital (colour) and film (B+W). Take me back….Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-008 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-026 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-002 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-028 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-003 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-030 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-006 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-027 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-011 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-016 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-029 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-017 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-005Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-021 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-018 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-020 Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-009Welcome-home-workshop-welcome-break-talton-lodge-022All rights reserved. Sassterclass | Personal Work

A few weeks ago I attended the Sassterclass Workshop, run by Sassy of Assassynation. Sassy’s work is so ‘out there’ and, although, strictly, it doesn’t fit the usual aesthetic of my own work, I went along to get a different perspective and learn another side and style of wedding photography. It was so much fun and so much was crammed into the two days that we spent down in Birmingham. Two couples came along for couple shoots and there was a styled shoot the next day.. it was all a hell of a lot to take in in the best way possible. Here are a few of my pics from my time there.. Taken on a mix of digital, film (my Olympus Trip 35) and Instant Film (Fujifilm Neo Classic).sassterclass-assassynation-photography-workshop-004 sassterclass-assassynation-photography-workshop-007 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-105sassterclass-assassynation-photography-workshop-009 OLYMPUS TRIP 35MM CAMERA-034 sassterclass-assassynation-photography-workshop-015
