I say it at some point every year.. when the wedding craziness of Summer dies down I love being booked in for a few family shoots in the Autumn. I’ve had a few with the wonderful colours of October over the past few weeks but, for now, here are The McClurey family, who I’ve been meaning to blog for months now.
All I ever want to achieve at family shoots, aside from getting a few ‘mantlepiece’ shots, is just children being themselves. Whether it’s cheeky smiles, playing with their favourite toy, showing me their bedroom, photo-bombing each other, pulling crazy faces or showing some rare sibling appreciation.. seeing little personalities coming through is just the best thing ever. THIS is why I hate studio family photography. In my opinion.. the madness of childhood is a million times better suited to them pottering around their own environment at home, or doing something they love to do.. letting them run riot at the park, the beach, the playground.. I want them to show me what they’re really like and to see smiling faces without me having to ask. This, for me, is what family photography is about.
