Welcome Home.. A workshop by Emma Case

Oh god, where do I begin.. I’ve long been a massive fan of Emma’s work for so many reasons, even sending her a fan email around a year ago (yes, a ‘fan’ email..) and when she revealed she would be doing a workshop I knew I’d do everything I could to get there.

The day got off to a terrific start… not. I set off just before 6am after being up through the night with a toddler who wanted her dummy back, and after a few hours of driving managed to get caught in the Brummie Bermuda Triangle that is Spaghetti Junction.. jeez. Sat nav or no sat nav I was going to be late. I needn’t have worried, Emma’s lovely other half Pete came bounding down to get me from reception in the Custard Factory (the most amazing space you could EVER visit, never mind work in) to rescue me when I arrived, and quickly sorted me a brew as I sat down with everyone else and thought “oh god, I’m actually here!!”

Contemporary Kiltz

Today I was asked to take photographs for a second shoot with Contemporary Kiltz, I was thrilled to be part of it. Clare has been making ‘kiltz’ for years, and really has a unique product in that they are made with the best quality traditional tartan, but has put a spin on the design adding a modern waistband and showing how they can be dressed up with everything from denim jackets to Aran knits.

We all met up at a family friend’s house in the village I grew up in (you could very nearly see my parents’ house from the garden) and I was gobsmacked at just how amazing a location it was! I had complete house envy, especially when I spotted so much amazing original artwork covering the walls and a fully stocked bar in the billiard room! We made good use of the space as best we could, later taking a few shots to send off to an agency for location shooting. I turned down a bowl of soup and homemade bread to later find out that the family owned a catering business who have worked for gigs from T in the Park to Jay Z to Elton John.. Doh!

Here is a small preview, and big thanks to Clare & Gillian for having me again!

Let’s play catch up..

To all followers out there, I’m sorry I’ve been a little neglectful of my blog.. I’ve been tying up loose ends at uni and had my final exams last week (5 in 5 days.. whose great idea was that?!).. but now my own wedding season has begun I promise to be more attentive in the future.

Now I have slightly more free time I’ve embarked upon a 365 project to develop my personal portfolio and hopefully keep me creative.. The 365 project is a photograph a day for the next year.. There are only two so far but I’ll most likely post on a monthly basis to show what I’ve been up to on here and on my facebook site..

Here are the first two, a very lovely lady from Whitby Goth Weekend and fab couple Tracy & Chris from their wedding reception on Saturday:

In other news, Love My Dress have featured What Katy Did Next’s Alice shoot which I photographed..

I flicked through Belle Bridal Magazine and found a few of my photographs..

I’ve started collecting a few gorgeous wedding dresses for June’s shoot, and hopefully lined up a videographer to make a short film of the day..

I took Vivienne, my sister and her friend down to the first ever Wedding Institute in Saltburn.. Vivienne ADORED getting her nails done by Nancy Loves Nails and hasn’t stopped talking about them since..

And more than anything I’m celebrating having some flexible time! This week I’m taking Vivi to my friend’s farm to see the lambs, a Sal’n’Dav’n’Vivi day, seeing friends on Saturday, family on Sunday, leisurely cooking and family dinners..  and generally catching up with everything I’ve had to push to one side for uni recently.. BRING ON SUMMER!

Tracy & Chris {Preview}

Ahhh Tracy & Chris’ wedding was amazing! They asked me to come along for a few hours for the evening reception, as they actually got married in Costa Rica a few weeks ago and had their honeymoon in one go.. When they got home they threw a VE Day/Post War/1940s themed bash and really. went. to. town. Have you seen the guests outfits too?!

Every table was decked out differently with all kinds of paraphernalia from table lamps, to jars of pansies to books..Favours were homemade whisky (labelled Yak’s Piss..!) for the men, and sourced vintage brooches for the ladies.. Bunting poured from the ceiling, and when the lights dimmed, the room was completely transformed into a retro haven ready for a good knees-up!

Here is a small preview of photos from the day, rest assured that I’ll get this set edited as soon as possible, there’s plenty more to come!

Can you believe they only started planning in January?!
